“Are You Dreaming?” a Sonia Rykiel kitsch sweater asked in her resort 2015 lineup. The collection, named “Urban Poetry,” sprung from the idea each city has a unique and liberating voice, muted by subservience to social and governatorial rules. What resulted was a collection that put every women in a dream: familiar and wearable pieces with a touch-of-twist that elevated them from passé to present.
Fittingly, French classics like the trench coat and knit skirt-sets lost some of their stature when Rykiel did them in a leopard-print nylon she reworked into deconstructed ruffles. The collection was full of classic-with-edge: A crop top peaked from an open, monochromatic pantsuit. A peach-pink collar obscured a minimalist black and white dress. Pops of cherry red invigorated the largely pastel palette, such as the belt warped around an extra-long cardigan sweater dress.
